Pomona High School Freshman Cheyenne Ralph placed runner up in the Pomona Unified School District's Poetry Out Loud Contest. Students throughout the district participated in this national contest with the hopes of passing to the next round and ultimately become the national champion. The Poetry Out Loud program is supported by The National Endowment for the Arts and the Poetry Foundation and has monetary prizes for both schools and participants. In order to compete at the district level Cheyenne had to first win the PHS level of the contest. Once at the district level competition she had to compete against four other students from other district high schools. As runner up she will serve as alternate for the Los Angeles County level competition. Congratulations Cheyenne! Pomona High School was named a National AVID Demonstration School on Wednesday. Advancement Via Individual Determination is a program that helps students get the skills and support they need to go on to college. Only 110 out of the 4,500 AVID schools in the country become demonstration schools
