| COURSE DESCRIPTIONS Art One- Skill development is taught in sketching, various crosshatching methods, figure and still life drawing, painting, as well as methods to motivate creativity when brainstorming. Students are required to keep a sketchbook of assigned sketches as well as vocabulary definitions and art history facts. Students spend time studying the affects of culture on the various forms of art. Projects are based on the common layout projects of professional graphic designers and illustrators. Original pieces of popular artists are also used so that students are informed and motivated in the visual arts. This course is designed to challenge the beginning art student in the visual arts by giving them the opportunity to experience the methods and techniques involved in sketching, basic painting, and layout design. Students will be exposed to the prominent artists of the past and present. They will also be responsible for learning artistic vocabulary. Art Two- This class has the prerequisite of Art One. We continue to review the skills and techniques that we worked on in Art One and build on them with the introduction of different projects and materials. Some accomodations can be made for students as needed. We will continue to expand on our knowledge of Art History by reviewing the periods covered in Art One and progressing to 19th century works. We will also continue to expand our abilities to critique artwork and to describe and analyze what we see. This course is designed to challenge the intermediate/advanced art student in the visual arts by giving them the opportunity to experience the methods and techniques involved in high level sketching techniques, advanced painting, sculpting, and layout design. Students will be exposed to the prominent artists of the past and present. They will also be responsible for learning artistic vocabulary. |
