California Healthy Kids Survey (CHKS) ![]() |
PUSD administered the CA Healthy Kids Survey (CHKS) to students March 4-29, 2013. The CHKS surveys 7th, 9th and 11th graders on a broad range of key learning and health-related indicators that are used to collect student data on attitudes, behaviors, and experiences related to school and learning. School connectedness, developmental supports and opportunities, safety, violence and harassment, substance use, and physical and mental health are some of the key areas assessed by the survey. The CHKS can be used as a tool to identify areas of student and school strengths and weaknesses, and address related needs. The CHKS is a comprehensive data-driven decision-making process used to guide efforts toward improving school climate, learning supports and engagement as well as identifying and increasing the quality of effective health, prevention, and youth development programs. |

California School Climate Survey for Teachers and Staff No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Title IV mandates that schools receiving federal Safe and Drug-Free Schools and Community (SDFSC) funds conduct an anonymous teacher survey of the incidence of, prevalence of, and attitudes related to drug use and violence. To meet this NCLB mandate, the CA Department of Education (CDE) funded the development of the California School Climate Survey (CSCS) for staff as a companion to the California Healthy Kids Survey (CHKS) for students. To further enhance the value of the survey to schools, it has been designed to help meet the data needs of general school planning, reform, and improvement. All PUSD School Sites participated in the CSCS during the month of January 2011.
