Homework Policy

Homework has a definite place in the Golden Springs PreK-8 educational program. It is assigned to help the student become more self-reliant; learn to work independently, improve the skills that have been taught, and to complete assigned projects. Students are assigned homework and receive credit toward a portion of their report card grades for each assignment completed. Homework has an effect both on the academic and the character sections of the report card grades. Each grade level establishes the amount of credit a student is to receive for homework completion. It is the student’s responsibility to keep an accurate record of assignments, have the necessary materials, follow study techniques outlined by the teacher, apply and practice skills learned in class, strive for the best quality of work of which he/she is capable, and to complete and return assignments on time. Parents should encourage systematic study, show interest in assignments, commend satisfactory performance, and provide the proper conditions for home study. Consistency is essential! Parents should check assignments each night for accuracy, neatness and completeness. This will ensure the development of good study habits.

Suggested Homework times:

Grades K – 3 45 minutes

Grades 4 – 5 60 minutes

Grades 6 – 8 90 minutes

All students should spend a minimum of an additional 20 minutes per night reading non-textual materials.

Certainclasses may require students to complete homework and/or long-termprojects on weekends. Under normal circumstances, the amount of timeneeded should not exceed the suggested times above.

Homeworkis due when instruction begins for that day. Homework brought in afterthat time will be regarded as late and will be placed in the teacher’sbox. If a student is tardy, homework must be turned in when the studententers the class, or the assignment is considered late. Teachers cannotaccept late homework or assignments unless the student was absent orhad an emergency illness with parent note. It is imperative thatparents support Golden Springs’ efforts to establish and maintainstandards necessary for the continued success of your child. Your fullcooperation regarding our homework policy is required.
