CalWorks
Goals
Helps pay for child care services in order to ease the transition from welfare to work and self-sufficiency for parents who participate in county-approved work, school, or job training activities.
Services
Families Served
Families may receive child care assistance through CalWORKs if on cash aid, and for two years after that, and if the family meets the state's income and eligibility criteria. Children from ages six weeks to 12 years are eligible for subsidized services.
Programs
CalWORKs is funded by the California Department of Social Services and the California Department of Education
Stage 1 - Parents who receive aid and participate in approved training or work activities.
Stage 2 - Parents who have received aid, who work or attend job training, and who meet income and eligibility requirements.
Stage 3 - Parents who have used the family's 24 months of eligibility after the adult stopped receiving aid and are still employed or attending school.

Provider Payments
Child care assistance is based on verified hours and days of care and established rates up to the state's regional market rate ceiling.
