Transitional Kindergarten Program
Friday, April 13th, 2012

Dear Parent(s) or Guardian:

Effective January 2012, California law requires a child to be five years old on or before November 1 to be enrolled in kindergarten for the 2012-2013 year.  The law also requires that school districts offer a one-year Transitional Kindergarten program that will serve as the bridge to Kindergarten. This program provides the "gift of time" for younger students to engage in a rich early educational experience and is part of a two-year kindergarten program that is designed to ensure ongoing academic success. Transitional Kindergarten classes will be in place at selected sites throughout our District.

Early kindergarten admission is an additional option being offered in PUSD for students who meet the appropriate academic, social, physical and emotional readiness criteria.  This opportunity is being offered only to children whose birth date falls between November 2 and December 2.

Please complete the attached form indicating your interest in these programs and return it to your school of residence as soon as possible.

If you have questions about either of these programs, please contact the site principal and/or visit our website at www.pusd.org/transitionalkindergarten

Sincerely,
