A.V.I.D.
Advancement Via Individual Determination
For the 2009-2010 school year Simons Middle School will be offering the AVID program designed to help underachieving students with high academic potential prepare for entrance to colleges and universities. AVID features a rigorous academic elective course with a sequential curriculum for 7-8th grade that focuses on writing, inquiry, and collaboration as teaching methods to accelerate student progress. In preparation for the program a group of teachers alongside the site administration will attend information and training sessions through the AVID Center. The AVID model is based on research suggesting that all students can learn challenging material if the right types of support are provided. At Simons we are looking to the future with our eyes on the academic success of all our students.
