Principal's Message

Dear Parent(s) and/or Guardian(s),

Welcome to the 2012-13 school year! My commitment to your child’s success is my number one priority and I believe that by working together we can ensure your child’s success. I look forward to meeting each and every one of you this school year!

Marshall Students in grades 6-8 are engaged in rigorous core academic program that includes: English
Language Arts, Pre-Algebra, Algebra, Geometry, History and Science. We also offer honors level
classes and electives that include: AVID, ASB, Band, and Technology. I encourage you to bring your
child to school everyday ready to learn. It is my expectation that all students arrive to class on time
everyday and that they continue to follow the school dress code policy. As parents you are an integral
part of our educational and social learning institution. I firmly believe that education is a partnership that
includes you. As we enter another exciting year of new possibilities, we will continue to provide the best
educational experience possible for our students.

Marshall is your school and we are strong through the active support of our parents. I call on all
parents to continue to support our school by becoming Marshall Parent Volunteers. Consistent parent
participation and encouragement leads to educational success for all students alike. Your help is always
welcome and greatly appreciated. If you have not done so already, I highly encourage you to get involved
with our school and at the same time your child’s education. Parent volunteer packets are available for
you to sign up.

Finally, I strongly encourage you to read to your children, regardless of their age, as this is one of the
best ways to foster a love for reading and learning. I look forward to another successful school year.
If you need any assistance, please don’t hesitate to visit or call me, or your child’s teachers, at (909)
397-4532. Our goal is to provide all of our students with life learning activities with a strong academic
program that will help develop them to become productive citizens and eventually progress onto college.
Please accept my best wishes to you and your child for a successful school year. Remember your input
and involvement are very important to the Marshall staff and vital to the continuous improvement of the
educational program we provide your child.

Sincerely,

Silvestre Maravilla

A.V.I.D.
Advancement Via Individual Determination
For the 2012-2013 school year Marshall Middle School will be offering the AVID program designed to help underachieving students with high academic potential prepare for entrance to colleges and universities. AVID features a rigorous academic elective course with a sequential curriculum for 7-8th grade that focuses on writing, inquiry, and collaboration as teaching methods to accelerate student progress. In preparation for the program a group of teachers alongside the site administration will attend information and training sessions through the AVID Center. The AVID model is based on research suggesting that all students can learn challenging material if the right types of support are provided. At Marshall we are looking to the future with our eyes on the academic success of all our students.

Yearbooks

Look for information early in the year for the Yearbook. Order your book early and save!  There are always several expenses at the end of the school year. The following letter (announcement) has been written and revised by Marshall M.S. administrators.

March 21, 2012

To The Parents and/or Guardians of: __________________________________.

Marshall Middle School has had in the past and which is still present, a standing rule and daily policy for “cell phones, electronic communication devices, I-Pods, MP3’s and 4’, electronic games/toys”.

Students are not permitted to personally use (or bring) these items  – on campus - during regular school hours, Monday through Friday, from 8:00am until 2:15pm.

If these items are brought to school, the item can and will be confiscated by school personnel, which will require a Parent and/or Guardian (whichever is listed on the emergency cards), to come to the office to pick it up.

Effective immediately, Marshall Middle School will be following the guidelines and protocol as listed below:

·   As items are confiscated by a School Staff Member – they will be given to the Office Manager to be logged and noted in the computer

·  1st Incident– the student will be able to pick up the item from the Office Manager – after school – and given a “warning” as to what can happen if it happens again.

·  2nd Incident– The Parent or Guardian (whichever is listed on the Emergency Card) must come to the office and sign for the item.

·  3rd Incident – the item will be retained and kept in the office until the end of school in June – and even then – only a Parent and/or Guardian will be allowed to pick it up.

Please review the above listed guidelines and share this information with your son and/or daughter.

Marshall Middle School strives for Respect, Responsibility, Results, for Every Student, in Every Classroom, Every Day, and where everyone is accountable for what they do and say.  We feel that by working together, all of our efforts will be evident in the success of all Marshall Students.  Please support the policies and procedures set forth by the school.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation with this matter:
